Introducing Sync the Music: Bringing Our Artists to the Screen

Grow the Music is proud to have seeded the ground that Sync the Music now grows from.

Thirteen years of travelling over 400,000km of remote roads, building band rooms, and sitting with communities to capture their stories in sound has created something extraordinary: a catalogue of music that deserves to be heard by the world. That's exactly why we're so proud to introduceSync the Music.

Sync the Music is a project co-founded by our very own Lizzy Rutten alongside Courtney Tune. If you know GTM, you know Lizzy, founding Director, music leader and the driving force who has spent thousands of hours recording artists from First Nations communities, CALD backgrounds, LGBTQI+ artists, and musicians with disabilities. Courtney brings over a decade of experience in major events, artist programming and live music curation, having supported over 300 original artists through more than 150 live shows.

Together, they've channelled everything that GTM stands for into Sync The Music - ethical music licensing for film, TV and advertising.

Australia's Largest Catalogue from Regional & Remote Communities

Over 13 years of recording on country and in the studio, GTM has helped build something truly one-of-a-kind. Sync the Music has now archived over 10,000 tracks from 800+ artists a living, breathing catalogue of Australian soundscapes unlike anything else available to the industry.

From desert reggae to traditional language songs, from remote NT to the NSW coast, this music reflects the full richness of the communities we've worked alongside. Artists like the Docker River Band (a five-piece from the remote NT/WA border who perform in Pitjantjatjara language) are now being represented on a national and international stage.

What sets Sync the Music apart isn't just the size of the catalogue it's the how. Every placement is approached with the same respect and cultural integrity that has defined GTM's work since 2012. As legendary Australian actor Jack Thompson put it:

"Sync the Music is providing a platform for artists from regional and remote Australia to showcase their rich stories and unique soundscapes stories that share a place alongside world-class films and documentaries, authentic advertising and ethical placement."

Sync the Music is already delivering results. Early projects include the All One Under The Sun compilation, the SWIFF Soundscape for the Stanthorpe Winter International Film Festival, and a Breville appliance advertisement featuring artists from the catalogue. Each project is a step toward making sure regional and remote Australian voices are heard in the mainstream media landscape.
